Survey Regarding Autism Spectrum Disorder
Understanding Factors that Influence Provider Discussions of Genetic Testing with Patients Diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder. The Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) is conducting a study titled “Understanding Factors that Influence Provider Discussions of Genetic Testing with Patients Diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder.”
Through this study, they are seeking to understand the decision-making process of healthcare providers in discussing genetic testing for patients with autism in hopes of understanding the role that healthcare providers and external factors play in the gap that exists in genetic testing uptake for this subset of patients.
The survey questions pertain to non-identifying demographic information about you, as well as inquire about your knowledge about and considerations for discussing genetic testing for autism with patients and their families. This survey is anonymous and should take no more than 5 minutes to complete. This study will pose minimal risk to respondents due to the potential for loss of confidentiality with an online survey. There is no payment for participating in this survey, but your contribution can help future healthcare providers.
You can access the survey by clicking here.
This survey was reviewed and approved by the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) Institutional Review Board for exemption. If you have any questions about this study, please contact Alexandra Neal (nealale@musc.edu) or Jessica Lo (loje@musc.edu).
Air Quality Awareness
Play a vital role in protecting their patients from the health impacts of indoor air pollution. The Lung Association urges healthcare professionals to play a vital role in protecting their patients from the health impacts of indoor air pollution (IAP). A nationwide survey found that while healthcare professionals believe they should assess patients for indoor air pollution exposure, most are not satisfied with their knowledge of its health effects. Here are some tools that The American Lung Association has developed to help healthcare professionals identify, screen and treat patients for IAP exposure:
Resource Hub: toolkits with resources to address common indoor air pollutants.
Air Quality Action Plan: plan to help patients take action towards improving the air in their home.
Risks: The Health Impacts of Indoor Air Quality, a FREE one-hour online training designed to help healthcare professionals identify, screen and treat patients at-risk for health impacts of indoor air pollution. Continuing Education credits are available for physicians, physician assistants, nurses, nurse practitioners and respiratory therapists.
