About Us

The Mission of the New Mexico Chapter of the American Academy of Family Physicians is:

  • To improve the health of our patients, their families, and the people of New Mexico.
  • To advance and represent the specialty of Family Medicine.
  • To serve with professionalism and creativity the unique needs of our members.

What is a Family Physician?

A family physician is a medical doctor who specializes in Family Medicine. Family doctors provide continuity of care for individuals and families over the life span. The specialty integrates body, mind, and spirit in caring for the whole patient. The scope of Family Medicine encompasses all ages, genders, organ systems and disease entities. Family doctors provide primary care for life.

Chapter Staff

Sara Bittner joined the New Mexico Academy of Family Physicians in July 2004 as the Executive Director. Before coming to the NMAFP, Sara directed another professional organization of healthcare providers.
